Een paar maand terug was California Sunbounce nog de officiële europese verdeler van BlackRapid R-Straps, maar dat is nu blijkbaar gedaan. Tegenwoordig verkoopt California Sunbounce een eigen produkt, de Sun-Sniper die, big surprise, nogal gelijkaardig is aan de R-Strap.
R-Strap? Sun-Sniper? Allemaal net hetzelfde!
Ik neem met opzet het woord identiek niet in de mond want er zal wel net voldoende verschil in zitten om in de strijd te gooien mocht het ooit tot een discussie komen. Zo heeft de Sun-Sniper een ‘Rail-Way’ strap (een weefmotief in de riemstof) en extra padding. De R-Strap heeft dan weer opbergruimte in het schouderdeel.

Maar goed, geen erg, zo zijn er wel meer die gelijkaardige produkten op de markt brengen en ik sta vooraan in de rij als het over innovatie en vooruitgang gaat, maar laten we wel eerlijk blijven wanneer we het hebben over waar het idee van komt. Wanneer ik de tekst onderaan de Sun-Sniper website lees moet ik toch een beetje lachen:

Meneer Geller heeft het idee voor de Sun-Sniper helemaal niet gehaald van de R-Strap die hij enkele maanden terug nog verkocht via zijn webshop. Tuurlijk niet! Het komt van een riem die ze bij de amerikaanse cavalerie gebruikten ergens rond 1885. But of course!
Hij houdt voet bij stuk! Geen van beide straps voor deze meneer!
Helemaal grappig wordt het natuurlijk wanneer je de webcopy gaat lezen die destijds geschreven werd toen California Sunbounce net begon met de verkoop van de R-Straps in Europa. Ondertussen hebben ze het wel van de California Sunbounce website gehaald, maar zoals met alles op het web is niets echt weg wanneer je het delete. Google cache to the rescue (screenshot)!

De gasten bij BlackRapid kunnen er natuurlijk niet echt mee lachen. Begrijpbaar, want hun produkt is Patent Pending (staat zo op hun website en op de R-Strap zelf). Nu, ik ken weinig van patentwetgeving, dus ik weet niet wat de gevolgen zullen zijn, maar het is in elk geval wel Internet Camera Strap Drama op zijn best!
Update: toen ik daarnet nog even keek naar de Google Cache versie van de Sunbounce R-Strap webcopy viel me op hoe identiek de foto’s ook zijn. Post bijgevolg geupdate met wat ‘visueel’ materiaal :D
